Chapter 13 is an option, and here are three scenarios:
1. Chapter 13 can allow you to strip a 2nd mortgage. This can make it so you're not underwater on the 1st mortgage and you can afford the first mortgage payment.
2. The bankruptcy court can take the amount that you are in arrears in your first mortgage and spread that out over 60 months and get you current again.
3. If you're an investor who owns rental properties, we can sometimes surrender real property and the loans associated with them in satisfaction of the debt.
